Peaceful Home, Peaceful Mind: Freshening Up At The Stanczyk's

Physical Clutter Equals Mental Clutter

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been in decorating, de-junking, and rearranging mode. Physical clutter contributes to mental clutter, and there's something about freshening up my surroundings that helps to freshen up my mind.

I had been going through a spell of insomnia, night after night, and it was really starting to wear on me. Maybe you can relate. I started to put off too many things--whether it was a my daily routine, upcoming projects, or leaving too many piles sitting in the closet and small odds and ends around the house that needed to be tidied up. It was time to get back in touch with what was going on inside my head.  Mental and physical clutter, no doubt, played a part in my tossing and turning at night.

It was time for some spring cleaning to see if it would help clear out some of the cobwebs in my mind. It did!

A peaceful home creates a peaceful mind.

...and if you're spring cleaning, you've gotta cleanse your insides too, right?! Time for my detox green juice!

Below are a handful of photos from around the house. One thing I love about our home is that everything is clean, whitewashed, and feels bright and fresh. This makes it easy to accent with different colors and textures according to the seasons and holidays. For spring, I wanted the vibe to be nautical with a touch of tropical, bringing in dusty blues and lush greens with varying textures like aged driftwood and old rope.

Divide + Conquer

If you're struggling with sleeplessness and stress, chances are you've probably got too many things rattling around in your brain. My advice is to tidy up at home! You can start by listing every room or area in your living space and devoting one day to each. Set aside just 30 minutes or so and de-clutter, vacuum, dust, rearrange, and open the windows to let in some fresh air! Get rid of anything that doesn't serve a purpose or have sentimental value. See how that feels!
